Hello from the "new girl" at Marriage Encounter Support Foundation
Hello! I’m Deidre Pearson, the new Communications Support Staff person at Marriage Encounter Support Foundation. My main role will include providing support for the Community Resources Committee as well as maintaining UME’s Facebook page and writing and contributing content for UME's websites.
I grew up in Burlington, Iowa and went to college in Davenport, Iowa, where I earned a degree in Communications/Journalism and met my husband, Eric. We were married shortly after graduation and will celebrate 34 years of marriage this summer! We have three adult children, one grandbaby (and one on the way), a dog and a cat. We have attended Calvary Church in Muscatine for nearly 30 years where I have served in worship and drama ministries as well as middle school youth ministry (alongside Eric).
Fresh out of college I worked as a newspaper reporter. After starting our family, I stayed home with the kids but found ways to keep my writing skills sharp through free-lance writing for the local newspaper and a local magazine. After the kids were grown I worked part time for a doctor’s office where I doubled as a receptionist and social media coordinator – while continuing with my free-lance writing. Later I worked as an editor for a trade publication. Then God led me to my dream job, right here at MESF!
Eric and I just experienced our first United Marriage Encounter weekend! It reaffirmed that we do a lot of things very well in our relationship, but served as a reminder that there is always room for growth. The weekend also reminded us of our continuing need to abide in Christ through prayer and reading His word. Several couples shared that the weekend opened doors for them to communicate more effectively, which reassured me that I’m in the right place!
